Walking the Ridgeway: Ashbury Folly to Sparsholt

The Ridgeway – Ashbury Folly to Sparsholt (5.3 miles)

Starting from the carpark at Ashbury Folly, I headed on to Wayland Smithy, an ancient burial ground. This is an interesting site to behold, and feels very eerie as you stand at the entrance to the burial chamber.

Wayland Smithy
Wayland Smithy is an interesting yet eerie place to visit!
Undulating valleys
You will see a lot of these undulating valleys around this part of the walk. It adds a lot to the sense of mystery the Ridgeway gives off.

I then proceeded up the chalky well-worn path to Uffington Castle and White Horse. This is definitely worth a visit, with lots of places to explore along the hills.

Uffington White Horse
A slightly flat view of Uffington White Horse. It is a horse on that hill - I promise!

As you descend again you see a clear view of Didcot Power Station, a sure sign that you are making progress on the walk.

The radio mast was the next point I aimed for as I headed towards the carpark at Sparsholt.
